GOTHAM GRAZER RESOURCES

GOTHAM GRAZER SUSTAINABLE FOOD TOOLKIT

This toolkit gives a detailed overview of the history of agriculture, organic and sustainable farming practices, plant-based diets, and buying locally and seasonally. The toolkit provides a number of thought questions and group activities within each section, as well as resources for creating food maps and real-life community projects. You can download below for free to use on your own or schedule a free virtual session with our team to walk your students through the program.

GOTHAM GRAZER SUSTAINABLE FOOD NEGOTIATION SIMULATION

This toolkit entails people taking on the roles of different stakeholders in a hypothetical situation by which members of the Hunts Point community in the Bronx try to tackle the issue of access to sustainable and healthy food. Stakeholders negotiate together to find solutions to the problem given various constraints and goals that each stakeholder brings to the table. It's a really fun way to learn about sustainable and healthy food issues facing certain communities in New York City while also building communication skills and experiencing what it might be like to grapple with these issues in a real world context. The toolkit is free for schools and community organizations and can also be a fun employee engagement exercise for offices to undertake. Get in touch with us for a free digital copy of the toolkit or to schedule a free virtual session with our team to run the negotiation with your students at events@earthdayinitiative.org or 212-922-0048 for details.

FREE VIRTUAL EVENTS AND PANELS

For our virtual events and panels, we bring together various engaging and high-profile experts we work with to talk about sustainability topics. We're making these webinars as interactive as possible with questions we'll present to the students throughout as we foster an open conversation on these themes. The purpose of the sessions is to educate students about sustainability, in particular sustainable food issues, and connect them to career paths in sustainability.

  • Sustainable Food: We have worked with dozens of incredible food justice advocates over the years and can bring in a couple for a presentation and group discussion about sustainable food issues, priorities for the sustainable food movement going forward, and how people can support sustainable food in their own lives and communities.

  • Environmental Justice: We work with a number of leaders in the environmental justice space who have been calling attention to the racial and social inequities related to climate and environmental issues for decades. We will bring in one or two such leaders to have a conversation about the most pressing issues and what people can do in their own lives or communities to be part of the solution.

  • Overview of Environmentalism and Green Living Tips: We often lead sessions that give a brief rundown of the history of environmentalism, where the current climate movement fits into that history, the current state of sustainability as an industry, and what people can do in their own lives to improve their environmental impact.

  • Youth Climate Activism: Young people have really taken the lead in the recent climate activism we've seen in the past couple of years. We can bring together a couple of young activists to provide an overview of climate activism, why it's so important to so many young people, and where we expect youth activism to go from here.
